Ages 8-10 Learn information to make sure you're comfortable and safe when staying home alone, whether for five minutes or a couple of hours. Does your child know what to do in case of a fire? If there is a stranger at the door? How to use the Internet safely? If they get hungry and want a snack? Our Home Alone class will provide many necessary tools so your child is well-equipped to stay home without an adult. Rent the Safe Kids 101 DVD for your child or group! This class is self led. Each student will receive a workbook to keep. Pick up of DVD and workbooks at the Community Education Offices, 17685 Juniper Path, Suite 200, Lakeville, MN 55044. Once the DVD is returned to our office you will get $10 credited back to your original form of payment. Contact katey.radant@isd194.org in advance if you need this DVD on a specific date or if you have more than one student. Workbooks are $10 a student, DVD rental is $20 with $10 credited back to you once the DVD is returned. *You must have a DVD Player to play the DVD for this course.

Ages 3-10 This gymnastics program is specialized for children with learning and sensory disabilities. Gymnastics provides near full body input –giving you the ability to move in all planes (even upside down) allowing additional sources of input for your child. Students will have the option to work on many apparatuses in the gym: rings, bars, beams, tumble track, floor and vault. We will also have a variety of sensory toys and games for your child to enjoy. A parent, guardian or other responsible adult is required to attend with the student at no fee. Only registered students are allowed to participate in the class. **Please note, this class is more of a free play environment vs a structured class. It is similar to open gym but is held at a separate time to provide fewer distractions for students.

We will be discussing lifestyle options for senior living. Should I stay and age in place - making home modifications to reduce safety risks OR should I go – moving to a home option that may be handicapped accessible, single level living? We will take an assessment and give you the tools to make educated decisions.

A vital part of every retirement or resettlement discussion involves the road map of issues that help us decide where we want to all home! Is it taxes, the political landscape, the weather, the location of family assets, debt or Income concerns in retirement, cost of living, health concerns or our friends are already there! When should we start this discussion? Did you know many states do not tax social security, pensions or other qualified retirement Income sources? Which are the worst states for estate taxes? How do we establish domicile? How about quality of medical resources and retirement facilities – who is good, who is not-so-good? All these issues will be raised and discussed in an open and friendly manner with questions encouraged.

Grades K-5 Come learn Spanish with Language Sprout. This elementary-focused, immersive program will get your child speaking fast. Our classes combine theme based and grammar lessons with hands-on learning to meet your child at their right level. Class includes a parent portal for continued learning at home. The program fees include a workbook and materials. This program meets twice per week throughout the school year to give students the best experience in second language acquisition. Note: students will be charged for any lost materials that need to be replaced. Instructor: Language Sprout Please keep in mind we need at least 13 people to run a class, and being that this is a year long commitment we like to open registration as early as we can. We typically decide if a class will run or if we have to cancel 2 weeks before the class start date, so please don’t wait too long to register. ** If we get enough interest at another location we may consider adding a class at another elementary school, however, if a class is not offered at your child’s “home” school, they are welcome to attend at another location, however, transportation is the parents responsibility. Watch the night sky over Lakeville with retired WCCO Radio meteorologist Mike Lynch. Get to know constellations, hear constellation stories, and view Saturn, star clusters, and galaxies using giant and video telescopes. Attendees receive star maps, constellation charts, app recommendations, and a telescope buying guide. Backup indoor activities include astrophotography presentations and land-gazing if it rains or clouds over. Books, celestial photos, and shirts will be available for purchase. Mike Lynch is a retired WCCO Radio meteorologist and has been hosting star parties and teaching astronomy classes for over 50 years. He also writes a weekly stargazing column for the St. Paul Pioneer Press and is the author of the book “Stars, a Month by Month Tour of the Constellations.” It’ll be available for purchase at the program. Select Mike Lynch celestial photos, and super cool glow-in-the-dark star shirts will also be available for sale. The Great Night Sky is Waiting! Light snacks will be provided.

Ages: 0-5 years Parent and child will separate for part of this class. Step into learning with your child as they explore and grow. Infants through pre-kindergarteners will have opportunities for sensory play, social interaction and build developmental skills. Adults will have time to meet with a licensed parent educator to discuss the celebrations and frustrations that come with the parenting journey. All ECFE classes are taught by a licensed early childhood teacher and/or licensed parent educator.

Preschool ages 3 & 4 years Stepping Stones (17Y-500) meets Tuesdays (parent and child) and Thursdays (child only) *Parents can choose to add an additional Drop Off Preschool day at any time during the year. The cost of an additional day is $52 per month and is Wednesdays, section #17Y-501. If you are in need of financial assistance, please call 952-232-3006. Welcome to your child’s first preschool experience! This class combines the best of both worlds: Traditional ECFE and Preschool. Tuesday is similar to a typical ECFE class in that it includes time for parent/child interaction and parent education. During parent/child interaction time, the early childhood teacher will set up fun activities that encourage emerging literacy and mathematical thinking skills. Parents will meet with a parent educator and other families to discuss a variety of topics that relate to parenting a preschooler. Parents meet with the early childhood teacher twice a year to evaluate your child’s progress. Thursdays you will drop your child off for their preschool experience. Children will have experiences in early literacy and mathematical foundational skills, explore science and social concepts, and practice growing independence, all in a play-based environment. Children are not required to be potty trained to attend this class. See below for more details. Classes meet from 12:45–2:45 p.m. and follow the regular ECFE calendar. $50 non-refundable registration fee. Cost is $107 per month. Sibling care is available on Tuesdays for $32 per month. Diaper and potty training practices: All children are encouraged to use the bathroom during group bathroom time, even children who are in diapers or pull-ups. Diapers and Pull-ups Children are not required to be potty trained to attend Stepping Stones. Children who are in pull-ups or diapers are welcome to attend however our ability to assist them is the following; 1. Children who wet their diaper or pull-up are typically okay for the 2 hour class period and do not require changing. 2. If a child has a bowel movement there are three options Family member is called to come and change the diaper or pull-up Time dependent; child may stay in the diaper or pull-up until pick-up time Staff will coach/assist the child through the process of removing the soiled diaper or pull-up, cleaning themselves and putting on a clean diaper or pull-up. 3. Parents are encouraged to discuss these options with the early childhood teacher and parent educator prior to starting Stepping Stones and create a plan for the process. 4. Each situation is very individual and staff will do their best to accommodate your child. 5. If an agreeable plan cannot be reached, parents will be able to request a refund of their registration fee. Potty Training As with other developmental areas, we treat bathroom learning as an area of growing independence. In case of an accident, we will help the child clean him/herself to the best of their ability and provide them with dry clothing (If school clothing is provided, please return clothing – washed). We will also notify you of the accident at pick-up time. It is helpful to keep an extra change of clothing in your child’s school bag. Please talk with the program staff about your child’s needs and create a plan if needed. All ECFE classes are taught by an early childhood teacher and/or a parent educator.
