*All Summer Swim Lessons will take place at McGuire Middle School, located at 21220 Holyoke Ave. Advanced (ages 5 and up) Participants learn advanced skills used in competitive swimming and lifeguarding, improve competency for strokes learned in Intermediate 2 and learn butterfly and sidestroke to basic standards of competency. Safety topics include basic water safety, healthy swimming, safe water entry, helping yourself and others in an emergency, use of lifejackets, safe weather conditions for swimming, and waterpark safety. Skills: Shallow dive Head-first surface dive to 7 ft. and retrieve object Flip turn: Front crawl Flip turn: Back crawl Tread water, 2 min. using different kicks Front crawl, 50 yd. (2 lengths of the pool) Back crawl, 50 yd. (2 lengths of the pool) Breaststroke, 50 yd. (2 lengths of the pool) Butterfly, 25 yd. (1 length of the pool) Sidestroke, 25 yd. (1 length of the pool) Prerequisite: Completion of Intermediate 2 or have equivalent skills. All swim classes include discussion of important water safety topics. During the first two lessons, each child will complete a brief skill assessment to ensure they are placed in the correct level. Families will receive a progress report halfway through the session and again at the end. It is common and completely normal for children to repeat a level as they build confidence and master all required skills. Unsure which level to register for?
