*All Summer Swim Lessons will take place at McGuire Middle School, located at 21220 Holyoke Ave. Intermediate 2 (ages 5 and up) Participants increase endurance, improve competency for strokes learned in Intermediate 1 and learn breaststroke to basic standards of competency. Safety topics include basic water safety, healthy swimming, safe water entry, helping yourself and others in an emergency, use of lifejackets, safe weather conditions for swimming, and waterpark safety. Skills: Standing dive Swim under water, 5 yards, retrieve object Feet-first surface dive Somersault Open turn: Front crawl Open turn: Back crawl Tread water, 1 minute Front crawl, 25 yards (1 length of the pool) Elementary backstroke, 25 yards (1 length of the pool) Back crawl, 25 yards (1 length of the pool) Breaststroke, 15 yards Dolphin kick, 15 yards Prerequisite: Completion of Intermediate 1 or have equivalent skills. All swim classes include discussion of important water safety topics. During the first two lessons, each child will complete a brief skill assessment to ensure they are placed in the correct level. Families will receive a progress report halfway through the session and again at the end. It is common and completely normal for children to repeat a level as they build confidence and master all required skills. Unsure which level to register for?
