Starwatch Party with Mike Lynch

Watch the night sky over Lakeville with retired WCCO Radio meteorologist Mike Lynch. Get to know constellations, hear constellation stories, and view Saturn, star clusters, and galaxies using giant and video telescopes. Attendees receive star maps, constellation charts, app recommendations, and a telescope buying guide. Backup indoor activities include astrophotography presentations and land-gazing if it rains or clouds over. Books, celestial photos, and shirts will be available for purchase. 


Mike Lynch is a retired WCCO Radio meteorologist and has been hosting star parties and teaching astronomy classes for over 50 years. He also writes a weekly stargazing column for the St. Paul Pioneer Press and is the author of the book “Stars, a Month by Month Tour of the Constellations.” It’ll be available for purchase at the program. Instructor Mike Lynch has worked as a broadcast meteorologist at WCCO Radio in Minneapolis afor over 28 years. Mike has covered all kinds of weather from deadly tornados to record cold snaps. In fact on February 2nd, 1996, he broadcasted from Tower, Minnesota when the temperature dropped down to 60 below zero, an all time record low for the state of Minnesota.


Mike's other passion since he was a teenager has been astronomy. He built his first telescope when he was 15 years and has build three scopes since then. For over 38 years Mike has been teaching classes and putting on star parties through community education, nature centers, and other entities throughout Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. His goal is to help people make the stars their old friends. He's also become a avid astrophotographer.
