Lifeguard Training - Blended Learning Course
Ages 15 and up
Become certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding for pools and waterparks, First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Lifeguard. This course will be offered in a blended learning format. Online material will be available one week prior to the start of class. Online module completion is required prior to the first day of the course. If the online modules are not completed prior to the class start date, the student cannot participate in the course.
All in person sessions will be held at Century Middle School Pool/Pool Classroom. Attendance at all class sessions is mandatory.
**Registration closes on April 9 at 7 am to allow time for participants to complete online modules prior to the first in person class. Refunds will not be issued after the course materials are sent. This course needs 5 students to run.
Age Prerequisite: 15 years of age by the first day of the class.
Skill Prerequisites: Prerequisite skills will be evaluated at the beginning of the first day. Those who do not meet the skill requirements will not be allowed to stay for the class. Only a partial refund will be issued if students cannot complete the prerequisite as this takes a spot from another potential student.
Lifeguarding Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence
- Swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. - Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. - Swim goggles are allowed.
- Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.
- Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
Timed Event - Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds
- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. - The face may be in or out of the water. - Swim goggles are not allowed.
- Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
- Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face at or near the surface.
- Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
